It isn’t unusual for a property to be suffering from visible rising damp symptoms. Unfortunately it isn’t unusual for some surveyors to not follow the recommend guidance in BS 6576, and eliminate all potential causes of the damp issue. This property had many issues, that would have been missed if I hadn’t spent the time investigating these. What normally happens though after a non invasive survey, a specification of repair is put together without identifying the root cause of the damp issues. Often as I always say it is common for multiple issues to be contributing to the damp problem, so resolving a simple visible one will not fix issues with the soakaway for example, or the 120mm floor bridging issue. The video below, whilst it is rather long it goes through the rising damp survey investigation, along with the repairs needed to offer a long term solution.
